Set up meta tags in WordPress
Although meta tags are no longer used for search engine ranking, they can still be useful to help control what information is displayed by a search engine when your site comes up in the results. Follow one of the sets of steps based on the plugin you decide to use.
Install the plugin - Yoast SEO
If you want to use the Yoast SEO plugin to manage your SEO settings, you can follow these installation steps.
- Install a plugin in WordPress.
- Activate a plugin in WordPress.
- Click on Pages or Posts depending which you need to edit.
- Click the edit under the page or post title.
- Scroll down to the Yoast SEO section.
- Click the Edit snippet button.
- Fill in your SEO title and Meta description fields with information about your page.
- Click Update towards the top of your edit screen to save your changes.
- You have now added meta tags to your page or post.
Install the plugin - All in One SEO Pack
If you want to use the All in One SEO Pack plugin to manage your SEO settings, you can follow these installation steps.
- Install a plugin in WordPress.
- Activate a plugin in WordPress.
- Click on Pages or Posts depending which you need to edit.
- Click the edit under the page or post title.
- Scroll down to the All in One SEO Pack section.
- Fill in your Title and Description fields with information about your page.
- Click Update towards the top of your edit screen to save your changes.
- You have now added meta tags to your page or post.
