Add a subdomain that points to an IP address

Now that you understand what a subdomain is, you can add non-forwarded subdomains that point to IP addresses. If you want to forward a subdomain, see Forward a subdomain.

To add a subdomain that points to an IP address

  1. Log in to your GoDaddy account.
  2. Next to Domains, click Manage.

  1. Select the domain name you want to use, click Text Icon (Settings) and select Manage DNS.
  2. At the bottom of the Records list, click Add and select A from the Type drop-down menu.
  3. Complete the other fields:
    • Host - Enter the subdomain you want to use.

      The subdomain can include a period (.) but not as the first or last character. Consecutive periods (...) are not allowed. A subdomain cannot exceed 25 characters.

    • Points to - Enter the IP address you want the subdomain to point to.
    • TTL - Select how long the server should cache the information.
  4. Click Save.

  2. On the Domains Settings page, under Additional Settings, click the Manage DNS link:

  4. At the bottom of the Records list, click Add and select A from the Type drop-down menu.
  5. Complete the other fields:
    • Host - Enter the subdomain you want to use.

    • Points to - Enter the IP address you want the subdomain to point to.
    • TTL - Select how long the server should cache the information.
  6. Click Save.
