So how does having a managed wordpress site help us?

Hey, I've using godaddy for a long time now for my website Ekapiens.org and its going great. Im using their managed wordpress hosting for sometime now and i must say its going great. But I think Im not sure why we need managed wordpress at all except for that they update my wordpress periodically. sorry if im sound stupid but i want to know.
