Deploying wordpress without disrupting current html site

Hi, I'm going to upgrade my site from HTML to WordPress. I need some time to migrate the content to WordPress and I would like to install it on the server without the HTML site while I do the work. I'm aware that index.php have priority over index.html. how can I temporarily change the priority? Also, I have a hosting with multiple domains each in a subfolder; may I change the priority only in the subfolder that I need to? Thank you in advance!

Re: Deploying wordpress without disrupting current html site

Hi there,

The code that sets the priority is in the apache's .conf file.  You may be able override it using your .htaccess.  Open your .htaccess and add/configure the line that says:

DirectoryIndex index.php index.html site-down.php

Change the order how ever your site needs or only add the file name that you want to use as the index.
